Kitchen Utensils

We’ll take a break from the Mermaid Parade for now (there are more pictures in my stockpile). I saw this great sign in Manhattan’s Chinatown on Wednesday. I kept thinking of “utensils” as forks, knives and spoons, but according to OED, cups and saucers qualify: “a tool, container, or other article, especially for household use”.

  1. I really like how you got the fire escape lined up with the sign. There is no doubt this is a city shot! Good grungy feel, too.

  2. So instructive this challenge. I love the city feel and as Steven said the fire escape framing one side. I wonder if the word luncheonette is east coast only. I don’t remember seeing it in Chicagoland and certainly not on the west coast but maybe I just don’t pay enough attention.

  3. Not many signs of this vintage left in our area as they have all been modernized. A loss, I think! The extra details visible in your photo really add to it.
