Children

Today I went to the children’s West Indian Day Parade. Brooklyn has an ENORMOUS West Indian parade. It lasts 5 days (Thursday through Monday) and is full of food, dancing, steel drums, chaos and great costumes. I try to stay away from the main event – it is much too crowded and sometimes dangerous (too many drunken people and police herding them into confined spaces). On Monday morning, there is J’Overt, which starts at around 4am. If you ever want to go, wear clothes you don’t care about because people throw flour and things. The children’s parade was a perfect compromise. Full schedule is here.

Here is just one of the many fabulous costumes – even the babies get dressed up.

Starting to get cranky

Now she’s really cranky. Not as sharp as I’d like, but her expressions were changing really fast.
